The
Chinese cars market is
placed second on the international level and the
manufacturers of Chinese cars start to want to be established
and to diffuse throughout the world. Today, there is a great
number of marks and manufacturers of Chinese cars, (meadows

works), Dongfeng, Chery, Geely, Brillance…. Some of these

A Short History of the Chinese Cars Industry
In 1953, the First Automotive Works (FAW) was
established. In 1956, the first Chinese-made vehicle, the
Jiefang truck, was rolled out. In 1958, FAW firstly
developed Chinese car for passengers, the Red Flag. Shanghai
VW and FAW-VW were founded in 1984 and 1990 respectively.
GM, Honda, Toyota, Nissan and Hyundai entered the market
from 1997 onwards, and domestic carmakers, such as Geely and
Chery, were also established. The entry into the WTO in 2001
led Chinese cars industry into the global competitive age.

The car industry outside China
discovers the 2009 Auto Motor China Exhibition in Shanghai
as a global event. However the Chinese models dominate the
exhibition.

show some great designs and a hybrid drive, a Haima with electric motor and a
full-grown middle class limousine from Cherry with a
combination of a diesel engine and a electric generator with
a proposed consumption of less than three liters fuel per
100 kilometers.
